Lapel Pin Attachments and Closures: Choosing the Right One

Posted by Signature Pins | Tuesday October 26th, 2010 | Topic: Custom Lapel Pins

It might not be the first thing that comes to mind while crafting a custom lapel pin, but choosing an attachment option is an important decision.

We offer several lapel pin attachment options. Choosing the right one for your custom pin design is mostly a matter of personal preference. However, it also depends on how you plan on using your pins.

For example, magnetic backings are an excellent option if you plan on using your pins while in formal wear. The magnetic pin attachment secures the pin to the lapel of a jacket or the collar of a dress without needing to pierce the fabric. But we’ll cover more on this in a moment. Here are your eight options.

Lapel Pin Attachments and Closures by signature pins

The most common lapel pin attachment options are butterfly clutches and rubber clutches. Both are free with any type of order.

Butterfly Clutches are available in a gold or chrome finish. They have tongs on either side and when you squeeze them together, the clutch is unlocked and will slide easily off the post. If you have a large pin or a custom shaped pin, it’s a good idea to request a double butterfly clutch.

Having two posts and clutches will allow you to wear your pins with more security. Sometimes, only having one post and clutch causes the pin to droop or spin while it’s attached to a piece of fabric or clothing.

Rubber Clutches have a gripping post that makes it easy to pull the clutch free from the post. We offer a variety of colors for rubber clutches as well.

The Deluxe Clutch is an alternative to the butterfly or rubber clutch. This attachment offers a locking feature that clamps it securely to the post of your lapel pins. The Jewelry Clutch is the most traditional attachment and locks on to the 10mm post.

We also offer Safety Pin attachments. Safety pins are an excellent choice for larger pins because they offer a higher level of support.

As we said earlier, Magnetic Backings are perfect if you plan on using your pins at formal occasions because there is no need to pierce a hole into the fabric of a dress or jacket to secure the pins in place.

The last two attachment options we offer are Cufflink Attachments and Keychain Rings. These attachment options stray away from custom lapel pins, but if you want to pair your lapel pins with a set of cufflinks or keychains, we can make it happen. You can order custom cufflinks or custom keychains on their own, or you can pair them with your order of custom lapel pins.

The design process is the same for any kind of custom product you need. Just send us your ideas, and our art team will set to work on a free proof of artwork.
